Lighting Applications - Bay
Traditionally, warehouse and industrial lighting has been handled by fixed, surface mounted lights where the finished housing is exposed and is not flush with the surface. These are commonly referred to as bay lights. They come in both low and high height versions and are frequently composed of light sources such as metal halide, high pressure sodium, or various fluorescent light fixtures.
A transition is underway to change these lights over to LEDs. LEDs offer the following advantages: longer lifetime, lower maintenance costs, lower power consumption, and thus lower energy bills. They may be dimmed easily and they are easily adapted with additional intelligent lighting control.
This application generally calls for very bright light sources that have their beams aimed in a downward direction in order to light floors and the workspace environment. Things to consider when selecting LEDs include selecting very high lumen and efficacy parts that have excellent thermal characteristics in order to ensure long lifetimes, followed thereafter by color temperature and color rending index considerations.
